Ethos

Ethos: The characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its attitudes and aspirations.

CMC's ethos springs from a bedrock of core values that we believe we cannot compromise on or allow to be diluted. These values work as guiding principles in all that we do, in the areas of education, service and research.

We believe in and are characterised by ethical, compassionate care, which translates into honest, trustworthy, and reliable service, irrespective of the patient's caste, creed or socio-economic background. CMC has adopted a holistic approach, seeking to provide for all aspects of a person’s care and development – biomedical, social and spiritual.

We steer clear of investigating or treating for profit. We are here to serve and not to be served; which is also why we focus on people-oriented and problem-oriented research that can help both our patients and others worldwide, especially in low-resource settings.

We not only seek to serve through our hospitals, but more importantly, to teach those who will go out to serve. We are passionate about mentoring and training, to make and mould the future health carers of India.

We work together and identify ourselves as part of a strong, supportive and unique community - the CMC family.

We draw our inspiration from the model of servant leadership as demonstrated by Jesus Christ and seek in all our decisions and directions to embody the spirit of His life and healing ministry.

Dr. Pratibha Varkey, CMC alumna who was recently appointed as President of the Mayo Clinic Health System, talks of servant leadership as it is taught at CMC.
