Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Radiology at Christian Medical College, Vellore. We are proud to offer the highest quality medical imaging, research opportunities and Radiology educational experiences at one of the top Medical College Hospitals in the country.  In today's complex medical environment, the role of medical imaging is becoming considerably more important to the diagnosis and followup of many illnesses and conditions.

Our department offers the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic radiology including plain films, conventional contrast procedures, US, CT, MRI, and interventional radiology (body, vascular and neuro). All services utilize the most advanced, safe and cost effective technology available to provide cutting edge radiologic service to our patients and our referring physicians. The department has 3 MRI scanners (two 1.5T and one 3T), 3 CT scanners, 13 Ultrasound scanners, 1 dedicated mammography unit, 4 DR units, many CR, portable and C-arm units. By the first quarter of 2012, two more CR units will be replaced by DR units and the DSA unit will be replaced by a state-of-the-art bi-plane unit. PET and other nuclear medicine services are under the Department of Nuclear Medicine, with PET/CT exams being reported jointly by specialists from both departments.

The Department of Radiology has been a recognised training center affiliated with the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical Univeristy. We presently have 06 MD and 03 DMRD candidates joining the program every year. We also offer one-year post graduate fellowships in Cross sectional Imaging, Interventional Radiology and Pediatric Radiology. The Department has been a pioneer in training capable and confident technologists. The 2-year Diploma program in Medical Radiation Technology run by the CMAI has been in place since 1954. In 2011, we have also started the BSc in Medical Imaging Technology course affiliated to the University, with an intake of 10 students every year.

The array of dedicated faculty, breadth of exams, research opportunities and advanced imaging technology, combined with the clinical services of one of the top hospitals in the country makes the radiology educational experience at CMC among the most complete in the country.

Our faculty and colleagues are from all over the country with diverse skills. Holistic approach to the patient’s needs and underlying medical condition, a friendly atmosphere within the department, optimal supervision, and mutual respect for one another are few of the assets which help each individual to develop into a confident expert in the field. The leadership of the department is dedicated to providing a positive work environment with many opportunities for education and growth.
