Radiology

Radiology work was started in the hospital in the 1930’s by Ms Treva Marshall, a radiographer. In 1936, when Dr. Ida B. Scudder, a niece of Ida S. Scudder, returned from America having completed board certification in Radiology, the department was established.

Over the years, Radiology department has kept pace with the rapid changes that have taken place in the field, with equipment and facilities that are comparable with the best Radiology departments in the country. The department has facilities for conventional radiography, special procedures, doppler and ultrasonography, computed tomography, guided procedures, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging and a digital subtraction angiographic suite. A Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) was installed in 2001 and the department is completely filmless since. The department has over 125 staff (including radiologists and radiographers) and performs over 518,000 exams each year.

The department has a teaching program, and trains two MD and three Diploma (DMRD) students each year, the courses being affiliated to the Dr. MGR Medical University. The department also trains twelve Radiographers, the course being affiliated to the Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI).
