CMC’s Department of Biomedical Engineering has been awarded the Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Certification Scheme (BEMCS), a Government of India project supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology under Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), Vizag.

CMC Vellore is the 2nd institution in India and globally to adopt and achieve certification under the BEMCS scheme. This recognition covers approximately 6,500 biomedical equipment, all of which are fully maintained and managed in-house by the CMC Biomedical Engineering Department.

The achievement reflects the institutionโ€™s commitment to ensuring optimal performance of biomedical equipment, reducing risks associated with equipment failure, and enhancing patient safety and the quality of care.

The Scheme is developed in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17065:2012 for conformity assessment, certifying that BME meets the requirements for Equipment Preventive Maintenance and aligns with international best practices.

The BEMCS certification was awarded at the 10th Edition of CAHOCON 2026, which was also the 1st regional conference of ISQUA for South Asia.
