The Department of General Pathology, also known as the Norman Institute of Pathology, is a premier diagnostic centre in India, committed to provide comprehensive and state-of-art diagnostic services to CMC Hospital, its ancillary departments and also to other private and Government hospitals and clinics in the country.
We now function in 2 campuses, Ranipet and Vellore. In keeping with the vision statement of Christian Medical College, the department strives to achieve excellence in teaching as well as research via its training programs for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, allied health science courses and the numerous research projects undertaken independently and also in collaboration with other departments at CMC hospital.

The Pathology
Department provides diagnostics service in Histopathology and Exfoliative and
Aspiration Cytology. The ancillary techniques utilized in diagnosis include
immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, fluorescence in situ hybridization
(FISH), electron microscopy and molecular techniques of PCR, droplet digital
PCR and sequencing. The battery of tests offered is very dynamic with regular
expansion of diagnostic panels, in keeping with the advances in Surgical
Pathology.
The Pathology department is also responsible for
undergraduate teaching in Medical, Nursing and Allied Health services as well
as for post graduate teaching for MD Pathology.In addition to this, several
post graduates from clinical specialties are posted for short periods of time
to learn diagnostic pathology relevant to their specialty.
The Department runs
a Postgraduate Diploma in Histopathology for technologists as well as
Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Neuropathology, Haematopathology, Molecular Pathology and Dermatopathology
