The Hospital and the College campus are patrolled by security
personnel, but you will want to take your own precautions.
For example, you may wish to use padlocks to protect your
belongings at your residence.
If you live on the College campus, you may be visited from
time to time by people soliciting contributions, selling
fruit, or offering services such as shoe polishing. In addition,
birds, animals, snakes, scorpions and insects share the
area. Monkeys and stray dogs show up from time to time and
are to be avoided on the College campus as well as on the
Hospital grounds. They bite, and the bite can be rabid.
The College campus is peaceful after a day in the town,
and strollers along the wooded lanes can relax among the
birds, trees, and flowers. You may also spot a mongoose.
Snakes are infrequently seen, but the use of flashlights
(torches) is recommended, as night approaches. Darkness
falls quickly, and lighting the path ahead will help you
avoid snakes and scorpions. Mosquitoes are a menace. You
will need to have your own repellent, or ask for the electrical
repellent from the receptionist.
