The main hospital is situated in the middle of Vellore town.
It is a concentrated urban complex of multi-storied stone
and concrete buildings. Outside the gates is the noisy,
dusty Indian thoroughfare thronging with people, vehicles
and livestock, all competing for supremacy. You need to
be very careful when trying to cross the road.
The hospital complex is the site for clinical training for
all the students, as well as the location of the College
of Nursing and various Allied Health Sciences programs.
Large high rise buildings provide housing for doctors, nurses,
chaplains, nursing students, and other hospital staff and
visitors. All clinical departments are on the hospital campus,
except for the Ophthalmology Department and the LCECU, which
are located at the Schell Eye Hospital on a separate campus
2km south of the Main Hospital, and the Rural Unit for Health
and Social Affairs (RUHSA), a comprehensive integrated rural
health and development project, located 26km North West
of Vellore.
A copy of “The Official Guide to CMC”, which
provides detailed information about many other activities,
particularly regarding the hospital, is available on payment
of Rs.20 from the Public Relations Office (PRO) at the Hospital.
Please meet the Deputy Director for International Relations
in the hospital campus, who will arrange for a tour of the
hospital.
